If you’re new to this sort of event, these tips might help you avoid some hiccups

Invest half an hour to create a list of all the things that need to be done and who’s going to be responsible for what. Check with each other regularly as to what’s been actioned and where any potential hold-ups are.

Prepare for all eventualities weather-wise. It can be -5 in the morning and 30 by lunchtime at Mystery Creek!

Beware the condensation! If you’re in a marquee and it’s been a cold night and you’re using heaters, they’ll cause condensation to drip from the roof. Wait to put your brochures and flyers out till afterwards, or cover them up.

Take some old towels to mop up the floor if it gets wet – all that traffic through your stand will leave your floor dirty and slippery.

Remember to leave room out the back to store your giveaways, prizes and your own gear.

Make sure your staff are there nice and early (1 1/2 hrs before gates open), to avoid the traffic.

If you’re having food delivered, give the delivery people a gate pass so they can get to you more easily and remember that the queues get very long from about 8.30am.
